Humans of MUSC: Dan Tan

Can you introduce yourself please?

My name is Daniel and I coach the MUSC Metro 4 team. I first started playing AFL when I was little and when they introduced tackling, my parents switched me to REAL football and I have never looked back since. I am a proud supporter of Liverpool FC.

Ah, I’m sorry to hear that RE Liverpool … Why did you choose to play at the Melbourne University Soccer Club?

I heard the players had good bantz … but also it was a club that was central and easy to get to.

What do you feel are the main benefits of playing at MUSC?

FOOTBALL FRIENDS

Has there been a favourite season at MUSC, if so why?

My first season playing, and it has all been downhill from then on …

What about your current involvement in the soccer club?

As a coach I enjoy watching the players improve on and off the pitch.

Has there been a standout coach at MUSC? (and) the best player you have played alongside at MUSC?

Best coach has been Drew McMullin because he was always supportive whether I was a player or coach. Best player was Alastair Smith due to the amount of aggression he had towards the opposition. Never one to back down from a challenge.

Do you have any particularly memorable experiences relating to your sports/outdoor activities?

Beating Old Xaverians for the first time- they needed to win the game to win the championship. They had brought down all their friends and family members to watch the game. The best feeling was wiping that smug look off their faces.

Also making Mario Di Gregorio captain!

How do you prepare for a match on gameday/do you have any quirky pre-match rituals?

I play my pregame music in the car (Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Avril Lavigne).

Love the music choices …  What has been your most memorable goal at your time at MUSC?

There have only been 2 and one of them was given to another Asian player. SO … it has to be the goal that was under my name which was a freekick into the bottom left corner.

Thanks so much for sharing Dan, best of luck for the rest of the season. I hear the boys (credit goes to Jordon English) got you a Raheem Sterling Man City shirt after Liverpool lost the league, now if that isn’t banter I don’t know what is. Keep doing what you’re doing!
