New Head Coach for Women's Teams
Vito Stevanovich comes to the Melbourne Uni Women’s Head Coach role.
Vito Stevanovich comes to the Melbourne Uni Women's Head Coach role with a strong background in junior football, formal coaching qualifications and a high level of enthusiasm for learning and coaching football.
Formerly a player himself, Vito has a Senior Coaching qualification and has successfully coached junior boys from ages 12 through to under 21 at a number of clubs across Melbourne.
Coaching women will be a new experience for him. He was inspired to get involved in the women's game at the 2009 FFV Coaching Conference where he talked to Matildas coach Tom Sermanni about where women's football is going and the enjoyment that can be gained from being part of it.
Vito's coaching philosophy is all about skill development and playing the game the right way. He is keen to deliver diverse training sessions and he expects commitment from the players to achieving their best.
Vito is a Chelsea fan, with defender Michael Essien one of his favourites – admired for the way he can turn defence into attack. On the Australian scene Vito is an admirer of another defender – Lucas Neill. By the end of this season Vito should have some favourite women players as well.
