Team of the Decade: Ilari Lehtonen
The next entry into our Men’s Team of the Decade is defender Ilari Lehtonen.
Ilari Lehtonen was a Melbourne University student who came through the ranks playing reserves football in his first season and progressing quickly into the top team.
He was solid player who predominantly played at left back, but was versatile enough to excel when playing at centre back or in midfield.
He was a tough tackling and hard working fullback who had an excessive amount of skill on the ball. Ilari won the Best and Fairest award in season 2011 playing as a left back in a squad filled with tremendous talent.
