Team of the Decade: Rachel Bach
Up next for the Team of the Decade at centre back is the unparalleled force that is Rachel Bach.
No nickname. Just Rach. Rach epitomises all that MUSC women represent. A fierce advocate for female football, Rach will never shy away from fighting for equality on and off the field.
Rach joined MUSC in 2011 and spent 7 seasons playing in the senior women’s team. An incredibly smart player, Rach is able to read the game brilliantly and would always be in the right place to stop oncoming attacks with ease. Rach also distributed the ball with incredible accuracy and had a magical first touch, allowing the team to start many attacks from defense. Rach would read an attacker like a book and know exactly how to take them out of the game.
Not only did she display incredible skill with her feet, Rach is a wonderful leader on and off the field. She was selected as captain in 2 of her seasons at the club and also served on the committee for many years. Off the field she was always organising social events and getting everyone around the activities at the club. Rachel also managed or coached the women’s Unigames team from 2012 to 2016, having first played at Unigames in 2010. She was the main driver behind the results that this team has had over the last decade, building the foundations for success and a whole lot of fun with her incredible organisational and leadership skills.
In 2015 Rach was voted Best and Fairest by her teammates, during a Championship winning season, defeating Ballarat in the grand final. Her final season in 2017 represented one of the most successful for the senior women and a culmination of everything Rach deserved on the field. This team won both the Premiership and Championship under Rach’s incredible leadership as captain.
Congratulations Rach on your selection to the MUSC team of the decade!
